Tourism and places of interest in Ainhoa

Ainhoa is one of the traditional Basque villages in the province of Labourd, near the Urrugne campsite, close to Spain. This town of fewer than 700 inhabitants boasts a beautiful church, Notre-Dame de l’Assomption, and a chapel, Notre-Dame-d’Aubépine. It boasts a fronton, an essential playground for lovers of Basque pelota, as well as a washhouse that attracted Napoleon’s attention in the mid-19th century, the Alhaxurruta fountain. The commune is one of France’s most beautiful villages.

Visitors love to lose themselves in its narrow streets and admire the pretty houses with their traditional Basque architecture, which give it a special charm. If you like hiking, you’ll be able to enjoy beautiful walks in the Ainhoa forest, which covers over 400 hectares. Ainhoa is crossed by one of the routes to Santiago de Compostela, the Baztan Way.
